CPR and Defibrillator Training

 Come along to learn CPR and Defibrillator Training on Saturday 4th February 2pm, at Saint Michael and All Angels Church, Martlesham Heath

Every year at least 600 young people die as a result of Sudden Death Syndrome, an umbrella term for many different causes of sudden cardiac arrest in young people.  It is also believed up to 270 people suffer a sudden cardiac arrest in schools in the UK a year.  Also each year between 80,000 and 120,000 people suffer a sudden cardiac arrest in a public place in the UK.

If a person suffers a cardiac arrest with no CPR their survival rate is 5%, with CPR it is 9%, but with a defibrillator and the heart in a shockable rhythm the chance of survival is over 60%.

A defibrillator is a device that gives a high energy electric shock to the heart to someone who is in cardiac arrest.  This shock is an essential life saving step in the chain of survival with also performing CPR.
